Augustana - Boston (Live at Cafe AMI Antwerpen 2016)
OK it’s Wednesday when I post this next episode of Video Thursday, but no need to wait when it’s ready, right?
Augustana is opening for the Dixie Chicks on some of their shows in Europe. Before their gig at the 8000 people capacity Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium, they warmed up in front of about 40 people in a small bar in the city: Café AMI.
This is their hit “Boston”, and I’ll be adding one of the beautiful new songs they did later. So stay tuned and enjoy this one already now!
Well of course I’ve seen the Oscar-nominated Belgian movie “The Broken Circle Breakdown”, where this song is placed in a key-moment of the story. But I didn’t think it would hold up this strong just by itself. Just another proof the lead-actress Veerle Baetens (who also sings the song) is world-class !
In comparison, the modern take of Ed Sheeran can be found here: Wayfaring Stranger by Ed Sheeran. It was recorded in one take and is a beautiful showcase of his voice looping technique. But, I do prefer the intensity of the first one. What about you? (yes, commenting is possible).
Carl Durant Fires and Earthquakes Live At Mille Cafe Mechelen 2014
Here’s a new song I performed at the “Laaghangend Fruit” showcase at Cafe Mille in Mechelen. Enjoy ! It’s an uptempo song about fires, earthquakes and leaving California after having lived in San Diego for 11 years… returning to Leuven, Belgium.
Time for a new Video on Thursday ! I met Eva during one of the pre-auditions for The Voice van Vlaanderen, season 3 (2014). And after a decent performance in the Blind Auditions I have to admit she totally blew me away with this performance in the Battles… and not just me… Go like her Facebook page !!
Ben Howard covers Call Me Maybe in the Live Lounge
Ben Howard performs a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s track, Call Me Maybe in the Radio 1 Live Lounge.
I hadn’t heard of Ben before stumbling upon this one. A very interesting version and probably a good introduction to the style of this British songwriter.
Oh yeah: has an amazing voice… check it out for yourself. (Bonus points for the bass player for also playing drums. Or the other way around.)
