Music Videos from Other Artists whom I like. Mostly under-the-radar artists, not necessarily “unsigned”.

Video Thursday – Jesse Thomas (Live at Infrasonic)

Jesse Thomas - Shine (Live At Infrasonic Studios)

Jesse Thomas! I’m surprised myself it took so long to post a video of this upcoming artist. I’ve followed her posts ever since she left her hometown in Kentucky in 2007 to become an actress in LA. From blogging on Myspace to hilarious video posts on YouTube, her talent and drive was there from the beginning. But it wasn’t until she discovered the “rasp” in her voice when she went into the studio with successful producer and talent coach Jim Roach (yes, lame rhyming here) from Red Parade Music that it became clear how truly unique of a talent she was. Great songs, great storytelling and stage presence when she’s performing live. This video gives a very good impression of what she stands for as an artist blending studio quality sounds with the live “vibe” that she brings. Oh yeah, she was Starbucks pick of the week in 2011, played at SXSW, last year her song “Fire” was the iTunes indie download of the week generating over 150,000 downloads and she charted on Bilboard (in three categories) with her album debut. And she opened my CD release show at Lestat’s in 2011. But that was clearly an anomaly.

Video Thursday – Ben Howard covering Call me Maybe

Ben Howard covers Call Me Maybe in the Live Lounge

Ben Howard performs a cover of Carly Rae Jepsen’s track, Call Me Maybe in the Radio 1 Live Lounge.
I hadn’t heard of Ben before stumbling upon this one. A very interesting version and probably a good introduction to the style of this British songwriter.
Oh yeah: has an amazing voice… check it out for yourself. (Bonus points for the bass player for also playing drums. Or the other way around.)

Video Thursday: Wonderwall from Oasis (Ryan Adams) – by Megan Hope

In this cover of Ryan Adam’s version of Oasis’ hit “Wonderwall” local San Diego artist Megan Hope really shines. This rendition brings out the best in her vocal sound while also showcasing her guitar playing abilities. I met her for the first time in 2009 when I played my very first solo show at a little church in Golden Hill, San Diego (a very cool&intimate venue called “The Marquee”, that unfortunately was short lived). She performed with a duo called “Novel Concept” and already then her vocals were a highlight of the evening. Please listen and share, she deserves to be heard !

PS: when I run out of local artists to post about, I’ll add someone “famous”. But doesn’t seem it’s gonna happen soon :). Here is Megan on Reverbnation.

Video Thursday – Going French – From Belgium: Stromae “Alors on Dance”

Stromae - Alors on danse (clip officiel)

Stromae is a multi-award winning Belgian artist from Belgian-Rwandan origin. This song from 2009 was a number one hit throughout Europe. It accurately captures “l’ennui” of the anonymous working guy in a big city with mainly first-world problems to worry about. Being a dance song, this is definitely a bit different than the previous posts, but surely worth a listen !

Video Thursday – Local San Diego Band SO3 – “I Just Want You To”

SO3 -- I Just Want You To (Dance With Me Tonight) -- Official Video

This week an award winning video ! It got the “Silver Remi Award at the 2012 Worldfest – Houston International Film Festival”.
SO3 is a rock-trio founded by guitar maestro Mike Artamonov and bass player Serge Belongie, who alternatively take on the lead singing role. They can put up a great live show and make cool video’s too… Just see for yourself !
